Summer/Fall Update

What a summer it has been! I've been so busy recently that I haven't had a chance to update the site much until now, but here's a rundown of what I've been doing recently. In June I wrapped up mixing on AbakisI'm One Too LP, which I worked on extensively for the first half of 2014. The first single "Day Job" is out now, so give it a listen. The LP is scheduled to drop in November, with a release show at Judson Church in Manhattan. I'll be playing guitar.

In June I also finished mixing on a new Twin Wave single, which I produced and engineered as well. The two songs we did sound enormous. There's an R&B vibe mixed with the guitar rock sound they honed on their last EP, and that was a fun balance to strike. We recorded drums at Seaside Lounge, with guitars, vocals, bass, and keys cut at Wonder Room, and I mixed it at Wonder Room. It will see release any day now with a music video to accompany one of the tracks, so be on the lookout for that.

After working on it for 10 months on and off, we wrapped work on Corbu's Everything You Imagine is Real EP in July.  Jake Aron mixed the tracks, and Joe Lambert mastered them. It will be out in November on Three Beat Records in the UK. First single "Neon Hallway" has been getting a lot of play on Zane Lowe BBC1. Here is Jonathan playing my ugly-as-sin but amazing sounding 70s P-Bass, which we affectionately call "Colonel Mustard."

Double King has been back in the studio. We were at Seaside Lounge in July recording basics for our new LP to their beautiful 3M m56 2" tape machine. Now we're at Wonder Room doing overdubs. Hoping to wrap up recording by the first week of November. Here's a quick pic I took of the sessions:

In August I was in New Gloucester, Maine producing and recording Tica Douglas' new LP. The band was the same one as on Summer Valentine, her last record. I'm very excited for this album, as Tica has written a great batch of songs and has some crack players backing her up. I'm just about done mixing it at Wonder Room. It's raw and personal in the vein of songwriters like Sun Kil Moon, Elliott Smith, and Bright Eyes. Here are some photos from the bucolic sessions:

Currently I am doing some recording and production for the indie doo-wop band Pep's debut LP, tracking vocals and guitar/keys overdubs. Jake Aron will be mixing it.

In terms of upcoming projects, I am about to produce and engineer an LP for Wet Leather, a band I'm very excited about. I'm also mixing an LP for the Wandering Lake (featuring members of SW/MM/NG).

That's all for now, stay tuned!

Mixing at Miner Street

I've just had the privilege of mixing some tracks for the Double King EP with friend and fellow engineer Jon Low at Miner Street Studio in Philadelphia.  Jon has worked with a lot of great artists (Sharon Van Etten, Local Natives, War on Drugs, Twin Sister), to name a few, and is also engineer for many of the Shaking Through sessions.  He brought some really awesome ideas to the table. His approach to creating his own, unique ambiences via guitar pedals, amp spring reverbs, and Leslie cabinets was truly captivating to watch and learn from.  Needless to say, it was very exciting to work with such a talented engineer and to collaborate with him on the mixes.  Check out some photos from the session, and stay tuned for news about the release:
