Barnburners

September 19, 2013

I have spent the last year developing a new music webseries called Barnburners.  It has been an incredible experience working on this project as co-creator and audio producer, and I'm very excited to announce that at long last our pilot has premiered via WNYC's Soundcheck!

Each episode focuses on an emerging musical artist, whom we invite to an 18th century barn in upstate New York. We spend two days with the artist, learning about their backstory and creative process while documenting their visit, ultimately leading up to a three song live performance in the barn, which we film in HD with three cameras and record with a full-on audio rig. To truly capture the unique nature of each artist, our production team works with the band members to develop a unique visual concept for the set of the live performance, which results in an incredible transformation of the barn for each episode.

The pilot episode features the Brooklyn-based Vensaire, whose debut EP I also had the privilege of co-producing and recording.  They are a wonderful band, and I strongly urge you to check out their album if you like what you hear. They were very hands-on in their involvement, designing the entire set and even writing three brand new songs just for the episode! It's this sort of spirit of innovation that we encourage and seek to capture in Barnburners.

Thanks for tuning in, and I hope you'll continue to follow our adventures throughout this inaugural season!
